The weight loss coffee that Özge İkibaş, a mother of three, regularly consumed for two months without a doctor's supervision in İzmir was leading her to death. The woman, whose heart stopped at the factory where she worked, regained her health after 1.5 months of treatment, including 15 days of being intubated in the hospital. The 31-year-old İkibaş said, "It could have been death. No one should use something without awareness. They should diet in a healthy way."

A woman whose heart stopped after regularly consuming weight loss coffee for two months without a doctor's supervision in İzmir recovered after 15 days of intubation and 1.5 months of treatment in the hospital.

HEART STOPPED AT WORK

Özge İkibaş, a 32-year-old mother of three living in the Ödemiş district, collapsed at the factory where she worked two months ago. İkibaş's stopped heart was restarted in the emergency room of Ödemiş State Hospital.

RECOVERED WITH 1.5 MONTHS OF TREATMENT

After being transferred from Ödemiş to Dokuz Eylul University Research and Application Hospital, and then to Buca Seyfi Demirsoy Training and Research Hospital, doctors investigating the cause of İkibaş's heart stoppage learned from a relative that the young woman had been drinking weight loss coffee she purchased online for some time. Treatment was carried out to eliminate the toxic substance that had accumulated in the patient's body. İkibaş regained her health after 1.5 months of treatment, including 15 days of intubation, and was discharged.

"I DO NOT RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE"

Özge İkibaş expressed her happiness for regaining her health. She stated that she started drinking the weight loss coffee she bought online two months ago to lose weight, saying:

"I used it excessively, and suddenly my heart stopped. I bought it online and it was not under a doctor's supervision. You drink it on an empty stomach, and it doesn't allow you to eat anything else until the evening. I feel lucky. A new chance, a new life. I don't think I will do something like this again. No one should use it; the end is bad. It could have led to death. I could have missed seeing my children, or I might not have been able to continue living. I do not recommend it at all. No one should use something mindlessly. They should diet in a healthy way."

İkibaş expressed that she missed spending time with her children very much.

"ALL PARAMETERS WERE DISTURBED"

Associate Professor Dr. Pınar Ayvat, the responsible physician of the Anesthesiology and Reanimation Department at Buca Seyfi Demirsoy Training and Research Hospital, noted that İkibaş was in critical condition when she arrived at the hospital.

Ayvat explained that the patient's heart had stopped multiple times before reaching the hospital and was restarted through intervention, stating, "She was connected to a ventilator. All cardiac function test results had decreased. The heart's contraction strength and the kidney's ability to produce urine had significantly diminished. All parameters were disturbed. We initially considered dialysis. We realized she could not tolerate it. We adjusted the ventilator daily according to the oxygen and carbon dioxide levels in her blood. We continued kidney support treatment."

"WE OFTEN ENCOUNTER MANY SIDE EFFECTS OF WEIGHT LOSS TEAS"

Ayvat stated that she frequently encounters similar cases, saying, "We have young people coming in who use various drugs and substances, as well as women who use weight loss medications, teas, and coffees. These substances can cause sudden heart stoppage. They slow down heart functions. They can cause rhythm disturbances. They have many side effects. They significantly affect the kidneys. They can lead to kidney failure. They need to be used much more carefully and under control. It should be investigated whether these are approved by the Ministries of Health and Agriculture and Forestry."
