The Co-Chair of the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party), Tülay Hatimoğulları, spoke at her party's Parliamentary Group Meeting.

Hatimoğulları, recalling the call of the terrorist organization PKK's Abdullah Öcalan, the announcement of the organization's dissolution decision, and the process of the weapon burning ceremony, stated, "This way, a strong message was given for the establishment of peace. And the fact that mutual conflict has reached a nearly non-existent level over the past year, that parties are in tighter dialogue with each other, and the urgent need for peace, and the awareness of this is certainly an important gain for us. The Peace Commission established within the Grand National Assembly of Turkey has signed very valuable works. It is true. However, society is now expecting concrete steps. We must not give opportunities to those who want to stir the stagnant water even more," she said.

"OPERATIONS MUST IMMEDIATELY STOP"

Asking, "When will the government and the state take action for peace?" Hatimoğulları listed her demands: "Operations against the opposition must immediately stop. The Commission must listen to Öcalan without wasting time. Öcalan must be granted the right to hope."

"WE FULLY AGREE WITH BAHÇELİ'S VIEW"

After the group meeting, Tülay Hatimoğulları answered questions from journalists. In response to a question about Bahçeli's speech during the group meeting today, she stated:

"Mr. Bahçeli's speech regarding the commission today was very important. It was a speech that aligned with the approach he initiated on October 1 of last year. He summarized that the Commission could go to İmralı, that there was no obstacle in front of this, that it could ask the questions it wanted on behalf of the Turkish society, and that it could share this with the public if it wished... We completely agree with this view. The Commission must go to İmralı. The realization of this meeting with Öcalan as the main interlocutor will be significant in overcoming a threshold.

"OUR FRIENDS MUST BE RELEASED WITHIN HOURS"

In response to a question about whether the detained former HDP Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaş would be released, Hatimoğulları stated:

"Mr. Selahattin Demirtaş, Figen Yüksekdağ, and all our friends currently detained in the Kobani conspiracy case should have already been released considering the first decision of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR). The ECHR Grand Chamber is announcing its decision for the third time. And the deadline given to Turkey expires tomorrow. We expect the decisions of the ECHR to be implemented today or tomorrow and for the conscience of society to be relieved. We wholeheartedly demand and want our friends to be released within hours."

WHAT HAPPENED?

The Ankara 22nd Heavy Penal Court completed the reasoned decision regarding the sentence given to former HDP Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaş in the Kobani case after 13 months, and Demirtaş's lawyers prepared a comprehensive defense of 400 pages against the reasoned decision consisting of approximately 30,000 pages. The deadline for Turkey's objection regarding the second violation and release decision given by the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) for the detained Selahattin Demirtaş ends on October 8. If Turkey does not object, the ECHR decision will become final. Therefore, as the eyes turn to October 8, Demirtaş's lawyers made the first release application to the appellate court to which the file was sent.
