The Chairman of the Sudan Sovereignty Council, Abdulfattah al-Burhan, stated that they are determined to eliminate the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) they have been in conflict with since April 2023, and that they suggested Turkey to mediate, but some factions did not accept it, saying, "We trust in God first, then in Erdoğan."
Chairman of the Sudan Sovereignty Council, Abdulfattah el-Burhan, spoke to journalists working in Turkish media at his residence in Port Sudan, Sudan.
"THE PEOPLE ARE UNITED AGAINST THE HDK"
The Chairman of the Sudan Sovereignty Council stated that due to the clashes resulting from the attacks of the HDK, there are many dead and injured, and the material damage in the country is also very significant. Burhan noted that there is no Sudanese who has not been harmed by this war, expressing that the Sudanese people are united against the HDK.
"THE PERMANENT SOLUTION IS THE ELIMINATION OF THE HDK"
Regarding the future of the situation in Sudan, Burhan said, "Peace will not come until the end of the HDK, and any proposed solution involving the HDK is nothing more than postponing the crisis. The permanent solution is the elimination of the HDK, which does not necessarily mean that they all have to die; it could also mean laying down arms and surrendering."
Burhan pointed out that they have received some calls regarding the so-called solutions involving the HDK, stating, "There are different intentions behind these calls. There was never a ceasefire proposal during the siege of Fasher. When it comes to Fasher, ceasefire proposals increased because they want the HDK to control more territory." Emphasizing that some countries made ceasefire calls in favor of the HDK, Burhan noted that a similar situation regarding ceasefire calls occurred three months ago.
"WE WANTED TURKEY AND QATAR TO BE MEDIATORS"
Burhan conveyed that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) supports the HDK, stating, "We do not want the UAE to be involved in any solution because it is the main supporter of the HDK."
Regarding his trust in Turkey, he used the expression, "We trust in God first, then Erdoğan," and added, "We wanted Turkey or Qatar to be involved instead of the UAE, but it was not accepted (by the HDK). Our neighbors in the region, such as Saudi Arabia and Egypt, could also be involved, but the UAE is not our neighbor." Burhan stated, "The permanent solution will not come through military means, but we can look at the political process after military operations end. The two sides in conflict here are not equal. The HDK is not equal to the Sudanese army. The whole world says this."
"WE ARE OPEN TO ALL PEACEFUL SOLUTIONS"
Burhan highlighted that despite the United Nations (UN) resolutions, the HDK has been attacking and bringing weapons to Sudan, especially to Darfur, emphasizing that nothing has been done in this regard. Burhan stated, "As the people and army of Sudan, we are determined to eliminate the HDK. We are open to all peaceful solutions and we want to eliminate the HDK."
"TURKEY IS A GREAT COUNTRY"
Thanking countries like Turkey, Egypt, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia for their support, Burhan said, "This war has caused a lot of pain, but our army has been restructured. We are confident that Turkey will support us in this matter. Turkey is a great country."
Burhan expressed his hope that the relations between his country and Turkey would develop and deepen not only in military but in many areas as well. The Chairman of the Sudan Sovereignty Council concluded his remarks by saying, "I thank you on behalf of the Turkish people and government. We have seen how the Turkish people have supported Sudan."
