Preparations are ongoing for the funeral ceremony of one of Turkey's important historians, Prof. Dr. İlber Ortaylı, who passed away in the hospital where he was treated, to be held in Istanbul. The first ceremony for Ortaylı was held at Galatasaray University. Ortaylı will be buried in the Fatih Mosque cemetery after the funeral prayer to be held following the afternoon prayer at Fatih Mosque.
WORK CONTINUES
While preparations are ongoing in the Fatih Mosque cemetery where the burial will take place, due to security measures, press members and citizens are not allowed to enter the area. The ongoing work in the historic cemetery and the arrangements in the burial area were captured from the air.
THE TOMB OF FATIH SULTAN MEHMET IS ALSO LOCATED IN THE SAME PLACE
The Fatih Mosque cemetery is known as a historic area where the graves of important figures from Ottoman and Republic history are located. In the cemetery, alongside the tomb of Fatih Sultan Mehmet, there are many statesmen and historians' graves. Ortaylı is also expected to be buried here, next to his teacher, the famous historian Halil İnalcık.
