As part of the corruption investigation against the Antalya Metropolitan Municipality, Antalya Provincial Police Chief İlker Arslan, for whom a detention order was issued and an arrest warrant was issued, surrendered to the Antalya Police Department during the night. Murat Baz, who was serving as the Deputy Police Chief, has been appointed as the acting head of the Antalya Police Department in Arslan's place.
Antalya Police Chief İlker Arslan was suspended from duty by the Ministry of Interior as part of an investigation conducted by the Antalya Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. Following his suspension, a detention order was issued against Arslan. A detention order was also issued against Arslan's wife.
REASON "BRIBERY INVESTIGATION"
The details of the investigation have also emerged. According to the instruction letter from the Antalya Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, a detention order was issued for Arslan on charges of "facilitating bribery, qualified fraud, and unjust acquisition of property" as part of a corruption investigation targeting the Antalya Metropolitan Municipality.
ARREST WARRANT ISSUED
As part of the investigation conducted by the Antalya Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was determined that Antalya Police Chief İlker Arslan, who was suspended from duty by the decision of the Ministry of Interior and had a detention order issued against him, was in Ankara. It was learned that İlker Arslan, who was invited to the law enforcement unit by the Ankara Provincial Police Department officials, turned off his mobile phone and went missing shortly after. Following this, an arrest warrant was issued for İlker Arslan.
POLICE CHIEF SURRENDERED
It was learned that Arslan surrendered to the Antalya Police Department during the night. Murat Baz, who is currently serving as the Deputy Police Chief, was appointed as the acting Police Chief of Antalya in Arslan's place.
HIS BROTHER WAS IN THE VEHICLE
On the other hand, it was learned that the vehicle belonging to the Antalya Police Department, which Arslan took to Ankara, was stopped in the Cihanbeyli district as a result of PTS analysis, and the person driving the vehicle was his brother C.T.A., while Arslan was not in the vehicle.
WHO IS İLKER ARSLAN?
Antalya Police Chief İlker Arslan graduated from the Police Academy in 1994 with the rank of Assistant Commissioner. He started his first duty at the Ankara Provincial Police Department and held various positions throughout his career in the General Directorate of Security, Siirt, and Ankara.
Arslan served as the Head of the Witness Protection Department from 2016 to 2021, and from 2021 to 2024, he continued his duties as the Interior Affairs Advisor at the Embassy of North Macedonia in Skopje.
He was appointed as the Antalya Provincial Police Chief by the Presidential Decree dated August 16, 2024. İlker Arslan was suspended from duty today by the decision announced by the Ministry of Interior.
