They were like father and son; I couldn't break that bond. He didn't see me as a father."

The father of 19-year-old Mustafa Can Gül, who stabbed and killed prosecutor Ercan Kayhan in the throat while dining at a restaurant in Çekmeköy, Istanbul, İsmail Hakkı Gül, revealed the background of the murder.

"THEY WERE LIKE FATHER AND SON"

The father of the suspect, speaking to Show News, stated that his son started working at a restaurant run by a friend of the prosecutor when he was 13 years old, saying, "They were like father and son."

"HE DIDN'T CONSIDER ME AS A FATHER"

The father said, "He would come and take money from home, he considered him like his own son. If he made a mistake, he would get angry and hit him. I would call and ask, 'Where are you, Mustafa Can?' but he wouldn't answer. He didn't consider me as a father. He didn't even ask about his mother," he expressed.

"THE PROSECUTOR RAISED HIS OWN WEAPON"

The father, İsmail Hakkı Gül, who stated that he had obtained a restraining order against the prosecutor's son, said, "The prosecutor raised his own weapon. I tried very hard, I called my son and said, 'I am sad for you because of what I heard, my child. Look, you will become a murderer. You are ruining us,' but I couldn't make him listen," he said.

"I TRIED HARD, I COULDN'T SEPARATE MY SON FROM THE PROSECUTOR"

The father, noting that his son Mustafa Can Gül used alcohol and cigarettes, said, "He had a girlfriend later, and when he asked for money and couldn't get it, their relationship with the prosecutor deteriorated. I tried hard, I couldn't separate my son from the prosecutor. Mustafa Can distanced himself from his family; he was staying in a one-room place next to the family home. He wasn't approaching his family," he stated.

"I TOLD THE PROSECUTOR 'STAY AWAY FROM HERE'

The father said, "We are poor people. I went and talked to Prosecutor Ercan. You got a restraining order for Mustafa Can, so stay away from here a bit. My son had a good relationship with the prosecutor. But he couldn't get his compensation from the workplace. He was supposed to buy gold for his girlfriend. The prosecutor told him, 'There is no money for you.'

"I LOST MY JOB AFTER THIS INCIDENT"

The father recounted that they had dinner together on the day of the murder and celebrated their religious holiday, saying, "'Is today a holiday?' he asked. Then he got up and kissed his mother's hand. He didn't kiss my hand. Then he left and went. He had arrived there. What happened, happened. I never expected such a thing from my child. I was working, and after this incident, I lost my job," he said.
