The current members of the Central Executive Board (MYK) of CHP Leader Özgür Özel were re-elected unanimously at the Party Assembly meeting. The party decided not to attend the opening session of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM), which will be attended by President Erdoğan.
After the CHP Party Assembly (PM) meeting, Party Spokesperson Deniz Yücel announced the party's stance regarding the TBMM opening on October 1.
MYK CONTINUES WITH THE SAME TEAM
In the PM meeting held after the Extraordinary Congress, Özgür Özel's MYK was unanimously renewed. Thus, no changes were made in the party management.
WILL NOT ATTEND THE ASSEMBLY OPENING
Deniz Yücel announced that the party will not attend the TBMM opening session on October 1, which will be attended by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
"WE ACTED WITH THE RESPONSIBILITY AND CONFIDENCE OF BEING THE FIRST PARTY AFTER 47 YEARS"
Stating that the Central Executive Board (MYK) has not changed, Yücel said, "After our 22nd Extraordinary Congress, we held our first Party Assembly meeting today. Many issues regarding the situation in our country were discussed at our Party Assembly meeting. Additionally, of course, in this first Party Assembly meeting we held after our extraordinary congress, assignments related to our Central Executive Board were made. It was decided, upon the proposal of our Chairman Mr. Özgür Özel and with the vote of confidence from our Party Assembly, that the members of the Central Executive Board who served before the congress would continue in their same roles."
Yücel continued:
"Next week, on October 1, the Grand National Assembly of Turkey will open. A topic of curiosity is whether the CHP group will attend the assembly opening.
During the opening of the last legislative term, we acted with the responsibility and confidence of being the first party after 47 years. Our Chairman Mr. Özgür Özel called all political party leaders, including the President, to congratulate them on their holiday after the local elections on March 31. When the President entered the General Assembly hall during the assembly opening, we welcomed him standing with our Chairman Mr. Özgür Özel and our deputies. We followed a positive politics with the responsibility of being Turkey's first party. Because we thought Turkey needed this, and we still think so.
"AS OF TODAY, THE WILL OF THE NATION HAS BEEN HOSTAGE FOR 188 DAYS"
However, after October 1, the appointment of a former politician, a person who has served as a deputy minister in the past, who has been specially assigned in trials involving individuals previously considered opposition, to the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, after being appointed to the Republic Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, has led our party, our mayors, and our administrators to experience a significant attack. The process that began with the appointment of a trustee to Esenyurt after the arrest of our Esenyurt Mayor Mr. Ahmet Özeri continued with the arrest of our Beşiktaş Mayor Rıza Akpolat and our Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor and presidential candidate Mr. Ekrem İmamoğlu. As of today, the will of the nation has been hostage for 188 days. Today, 17 CHP mayors, one member of the Party Assembly, our former deputy, and hundreds of bureaucrats and colleagues are hostages. Given the current situation, lawsuits are being filed against our party, a trustee is being appointed to our Istanbul Provincial Presidency, and despite the Ankara Court's decision resolving the dispute on the merits, the Istanbul Court, which has no jurisdiction, continues its unlawful behavior.
"HAS LOST ITS LEGITIMACY IN OUR VIEW"
In such a political environment, we will neither welcome the President sitting nor standing at the assembly opening. Because, in our view, he has lost his legitimacy. The patience we showed for 47 years, they could not even show for 47 days. Therefore, we will neither welcome him nor bid him farewell at the assembly opening.
However, of course, our deputies will participate in other programs. I wish the 4th legislative year of the 28th term to be beneficial for our nation. I share with you that we will continue to fight to establish the will of the nation, which is above everything, in this legislative year."
