It has been suggested that the United States plans to temporarily hand over the administration of the Gaza Strip to former British Prime Minister Tony Blair. Hossam Bedran, head of Hamas's National Relations Office, who announced the development, described Blair as "the brother of the devil," stating that he is an unwanted figure in the Palestinian cause.
The head of Hamas's National Relations Office, Hossam Bedran, stated in a message from the movement's social media account, "Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair is an unwanted figure in the Palestinian cause. Any plan associated with this person (Blair) would be an ominous sign for the Palestinian people."
"HE IS SOMEONE WHO SHOULD BE IN FRONT OF THE COURTS"
Bedran evaluated, "Tony Blair is a negative personality, and due to his crimes during the Iraq War (2003-2011), he is someone who should be in front of international courts."
"BROTHER OF THE DEVIL"
Describing Blair as the "brother of the devil," Bedran stated, "He has brought no good to the Palestinian cause, Arabs, or Muslims; his crime-ridden and destructive role has been known for years." Bedran emphasized that the Palestinian issue in Gaza and the West Bank is an internal matter that can only be resolved through national consensus, stating that no regional or international party from outside has the right to dictate to Palestinians how to conduct their affairs.
"THERE IS NO OFFICIAL PROPOSAL REACHING US"
Stating that the Palestinian people are capable of self-governance, Bedran commented on the ceasefire proposal mentioned by Israeli and US media: "No official proposal has reached us through the mediators. Everything that has been said so far, we only hear in the media. However, officially, there is no proposal that has reached us, whether from (US President) Trump or others."
WHAT HAD HAPPENED?
Israel's Haaretz newspaper reported, citing an Arab political source, that the US administration had developed a plan to bring Blair to head a temporary administration in Gaza. It was claimed that discussions were held regarding Blair being the figure to manage the transition process in Gaza.
Reports in the British media indicated that Blair was chosen as the person to carry out a plan to establish a new administration in Gaza, supported by Gulf countries and the US, and then return control to the Palestinians. It was also claimed that Blair would manage an entity called the "Gaza International Transition Authority (Gita)," which would seek authorization from the United Nations to become the "highest political and legal authority" in Gaza.
It was noted that a structure similar to the transition processes in East Timor and Kosovo would be created for Gaza, with the Gita management center initially located in Egypt and then in the Gaza Strip. It was reported that the Gita management would consist of 7 to 10 members, with Blair at the helm, including at least one Palestinian, one UN official, and international members with experience in finance.
While it was also mentioned that there would be strong Muslim representation in the administration, a spokesperson from Blair's office stated to the BBC that Blair would not support any plan that displaces Gazans. After resigning as Prime Minister in 2007, Blair served as the Middle East Special Representative for the US, European Union, Russia, and the UN, and in August, he discussed the future of the region with US President Donald Trump at a meeting held at the White House.
