The first hearing of the case against journalist Fatih Altaylı, who was arrested on charges of "threatening the President," will be held on October 3 in Silivri.

The date has been set for journalist Fatih Altaylı, who was arrested on charges of "threatening the President" due to statements made on his YouTube channel, and for whom an indictment has been prepared with a minimum sentence of 5 years.

ALTAYLI WILL APPEAR IN COURT FOR THE FIRST TIME ON OCTOBER 3

Altaylı, who has been detained in Silivri Prison for 40 days, will have the first hearing of his trial on October 3 in courtroom number 2 at the Marmara Prison Campus in Silivri. Altaylı will appear before the judge for the first time in October.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Journalist Fatih Altaylı was subject to an arrest warrant after a broadcast on his YouTube channel on June 21, and he was taken into custody that same evening at his home in Teşvikiye. After giving a statement at the police station, Altaylı was referred to the courthouse and subsequently sent to the peace court with a request for arrest after the prosecutor's interrogation. The Istanbul duty peace court had just issued an arrest warrant for Altaylı.

"I DID NOT THREATEN ERDOĞAN"

In his statement at the peace court, Altaylı said, "I had given a statement on this matter at the police and the prosecutor's office. That statement is true, and I repeat it exactly. The YouTube account named @fatihaltayli belongs to me. I made the relevant posts from that account on June 20, 2025. However, I had no intention of insulting or threatening the President in those posts. I was asked about the results of a survey conducted by a research company regarding whether the Turkish public would approve of President Erdoğan continuing to serve as President under the conditions of recorded life, and the result showed that 70% would not approve of this change. I commented on this. I stated that the Turkish people love the ballot box and believe in democracy, and that before the Tanzimat, sultans were deposed, and today this is done through the ballot box. I absolutely did not threaten President Erdoğan; I did not insult him. I only provided historical information. I do not accept the charges against me, and I request to be released," he stated.

REQUEST FOR IMPRISONMENT OF NOT LESS THAN 5 YEARS

In the prepared indictment, it was requested that suspect Fatih Altaylı be sentenced to imprisonment of not less than 5 years for the crime of 'threatening the President.'
