A statement has been made by journalist Emrullah Erdinç, who was detained as part of a drug investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office and released after his statement at the prosecutor's office. Erdinç stated that he was consulted regarding former Habertürk TV General Manager Mehmet Akif Ersoy, who was arrested as part of the investigation, and noted that it was decided he would be released without any judicial control conditions.
A new development has occurred in the drug investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.
EMRULLAH ERDİNÇ RELEASED
As part of the investigation, journalist Emrullah Erdinç was detained last night. After his procedures at the Provincial Gendarmerie Command, Erdinç was brought to the courthouse today and was released after giving his statement to the prosecutor.
HE MADE A STATEMENT IMMEDIATELY AFTER HIS RELEASE
After his release, Erdinç made a statement regarding the matter on his social media account. In his statement, he said: "Hello everyone. It was a day when my friends were sad for me. But as you all know, our necks are as thin as a hair in front of justice, and justice requested to refer to my knowledge and statement regarding my friendship with Mehmet Akif Ersoy within the scope of the investigation. I came and gave my statement to the prosecutor. I explained what I knew about Mehmet Akif Ersoy. In this context, it was decided to release me without judicial control, in accordance with the request made by the prosecutor, based on the statements I provided."
"I REQUESTED THE HAIR AND BLOOD TEST TO BE DONE"
Of course, I also stated this at the end of my statement. Let me tell you this. I specifically requested to be subjected to a blood and hair test. Because during this process I went through today, they did not take me to the Forensic Medicine. I requested the hair and blood test to be done. The prosecutor said, 'We will evaluate it,' but he also said, 'It is not your discretion to request, it is our discretion that needs to be considered.' He said, 'Because Forensic Medicine is not a unit that conducts hair and blood tests for everyone who asks.' He said, 'We will take a look, evaluate it,' and said he would decide accordingly.
"A DECISION WAS MADE TO RELEASE ME WITHOUT JUDICIAL CONTROL"
And shortly after, the prosecutor announced his decision. As I said, he decided to release me without judicial control, meaning without any travel ban or any signature requirement. And again, the prosecutor stated there, 'There is no need for a hair and blood test.' He said, 'We can already see what is happening in the file.'
"I AM READY TO GIVE A STATEMENT AGAIN WHEN THE STATE WANTS"
Thus, my statement was completed. I left the courthouse, and during this time, as I said, I am ready to give a statement again whenever the judiciary wants, whenever the state wants. I thank all my friends who are concerned about me. And one last note: I will continue my broadcasts from where I left off.
WHAT HAPPENED?
As part of the investigation that started last week, former Habertürk TV General Broadcast Director Mehmet Akif Ersoy and anchor Ela Rümeysa Cebeci were arrested and sent to prison.
With the expansion of the case, new names came to the fore in the second phase of the operation, and six more suspects, including social media phenomenon Cihan Şensözlü, who also writes for Hürriyet, and the driver of Kasım Garipoğlu, İsmail Ahmet Akçay, were also arrested.
Sadettin Saran, the President of Fenerbahçe Sports Club, also gave a statement in the same investigation and was released under judicial control.
Last night, a detention order was issued for Emrullah Erdinç, Umut Evirgen, and Ali Yaşar Koz. After their procedures at the police station, Koz and Evirgen were brought to the courthouse and were released today under judicial control.
