Ahmet Durgun, the husband of Sümeyye Durgun, whose body was found in a trash bag in an apartment on the 8th floor of a building in the Yenişehir district of Diyarbakır, shared a horrifying detail. Durgun stated that he spoke with the janitor, who is the murderer of his wife, when he came to the site. "I showed the janitor a photo of my wife. I asked if he had encountered her while collecting the trash in the apartments. He hesitated for a moment. He seemed to panic. But it never crossed my mind," he said.
In the Yenişehir district of Diyarbakır, the procedures for S. K., the site caretaker who was detained as a murder suspect after the body of Sümeyye Durgun was found in a garbage bag in an apartment on the 8th floor of a building, are ongoing.
WENT TO THE SITE WHERE HIS WIFE WAS MURDERED
The funeral of Sümeyye Durgun was buried in the Yeniköy Cemetery in the Bağlar district after the autopsy procedures. While the investigation into the incident continues, it has emerged that Ahmet Durgun (29) went to the 8th floor of the site where the murder took place, after finding the taxi his wife took a day before her body was discovered and obtaining information from the driver, and encountered the murder suspect caretaker S. K. Ahmet Durgun shared his experience with DHA.
"MY WIFE SAID A FRIEND WOULD PICK HER UP"
Ahmet Durgun stated that he married Sümeyye on May 27 and said: "We were happy together. My wife texted me asking, 'Can I go out?' I replied that she could go out and asked where she was going. She told me she would go to her friend's place and would return shortly. She also asked me when I would return home, and I told her that her work would be done in 2 hours. This conversation took place on December 23, around 3:30 PM on a Tuesday. The last time I spoke to her on the phone, it was 3:38 PM. After that, my wife said she was coming towards Şehitlik four-way. She said her friend would come and pick her up near the Meat and Milk Institution.
"I NOTICED SHE GOT INTO A TAXI"
After that, I realized that my wife got into a taxi at the taxi stand at the four-way. I didn't call her immediately because I didn't want to say anything that would embarrass or upset her since she told me her friend would come to pick her up. I had seen her sitting on the driver's side. After a while, I called my wife, but I couldn't reach her. I first texted her. When I saw that the internet was not on, I panicked. I called normally. I couldn't reach her in any way. I started to become more suspicious. I couldn't sit still. I was sitting in a café. After leaving the café, I sat there for 2-3 hours after my wife got into the taxi.
When I couldn't reach her, I got worried and went outside. I walked towards the park and waited there for my wife's call. When I didn't hear anything, I went home. I didn't inform my mother-in-law who lives upstairs so she wouldn't panic, thinking maybe my wife's phone was damaged. That night, I called my mother-in-law around midnight and learned that she hadn't gone to them, which made me panic. This was not normal. My wife wouldn't keep her phone off for a long time. I was worried about her safety. I went to the police station. Then I went to the taxi stand. Since the taxi drivers weren't working at that hour, I went to the stand early in the morning. A taxi driver helped me.
WENT TO THE SITE WHERE HIS WIFE'S BODY WAS FOUND
I asked him if he had heard any information about my wife when he dropped her off during the ride. I asked questions like whether he knew who she was going to meet or what she was going to do. The taxi driver told me that my wife initially said the door of the Forensic Medicine Institution, but it was clear that she didn't know the address. He then said he didn't know whether the person she was going to meet was a woman or a man. The taxi driver asked if the location given to my wife was a house, a business, or a construction site. My wife said, 'It's a house, it's an apartment.' After that, my wife went to the site with the taxi driver, and the taxi driver confirmed to me that it was the block where the incident occurred. The taxi driver mentioned that he heard it was on the 8th floor, thinking it might be useful for me.
"THE CARETAKER WAS TAKING OUT THE TRASH BAGS"
Durgun stated that he went to the site with the information he received from the taxi driver and said: "I entered the block. As soon as I entered the block, I saw a caretaker with a beanie. He was taking out the trash from the elevator. He was taking out trash in black bags. I thought he was the caretaker, so I asked, 'Brother, are you the caretaker here?' He said, 'Yes.' I asked, 'Brother, are there any cameras here?' He hesitated a bit. Then he told me that there was a friend in front of the security booth who was responsible for these matters.
"I FELT THE MAN WAS WELL-MEANING"
When he said that, I felt the man was well-meaning. I thought he was being helpful. I showed him my wife's photo. I asked if he had encountered her while taking out the trash in the apartments or if he had seen her when she entered in the evening. He hesitated for a moment. He seemed to panic. But it never crossed my mind whether he had a hand in this or not. After that, I told the caretaker about the 8th-floor incident with the taxi driver. The caretaker said that no one lived there. He said the house keys were with the landlord. He also said that he hadn't taken out any trash from there and that, as far as he knew, it was empty. After that, I went back upstairs because I was still feeling uneasy. When I reached the 8th floor, I knocked on both doors repeatedly.
"I SEARCHED THE APARTMENTS ONE BY ONE"
There was no sound, and no door opened. I reached out to a friend who was responsible for the site. We went through the empty apartments with open doors upstairs one by one. But when we reached the 8th floor, the staff there said they didn't have the keys to those two closed apartments. I asked this friend to post my wife's photo in the site group and write my number below it. He kindly helped. So that anyone who sees or hears can reach this number. After that, I left from there," he said.
"I RECEIVED A CALL SAYING 'A BODY WAS FOUND IN A BAG'"
Ahmet Durgun stated that he went out on his bicycle the next day and said, "After I went out on my bicycle, I received a call. First, a friend named Engin called me. He said I needed to come to the site urgently because a lifeless female body was found in a bag. After that, we went there. I saw an ambulance in front of the site. I saw there was a crowd. I saw the police. I had never seen the caretaker before. I had only seen him when I showed him the photo after we got out of the taxi there.
Why does he harm my spouse? We had no debts to anyone. We had no issues with anyone. My spouse was a very kind-hearted person. We were happy. My spouse is my uncle's daughter. We got married by eloping. We went to Samsun. Later, they embraced us. They accepted us. After we had our wedding, we came to Diyarbakır. May God be pleased with my spouse. He always used to say to me, 'May my Lord place you in His paradise, inshallah.' Inshallah, if my Lord hears me, may He place him in His paradise. I want the killer to receive the heaviest punishment. I want him to be executed. May God not leave us without our rights. They brought fire to our hearth. They took a piece of my soul. How can I live without him?" he said.
