Imam Mehmet Ay, serving in Bartın, reacted to the congregation due to ringing cell phones in the mosque. Imam Ay said, "Some have 'Bartın çiftetellisi' playing on their phones, others have 'Azdavaylı Safiye.' It doesn't work while praying," and requested that phones or ringtones be turned off.
Mehmet Ay, the Imam of the Aşağı Çamlı Village Mosque in the Ulus district of Bartın, warned the congregation about ringing phones during his sermon, as some attendees arrived for the evening prayer.
"SOME HAVE 'BARTIN ÇİFTETELLİ' AND SOME HAVE 'AZDAVAYLI SAFİYE' PLAYING"
Imam Ay stated, "This has been happening quite frequently lately. Our phones do not stop ringing in the mosque. Let's silence our phones before entering the mosque or discussion gatherings. Let's pray in tranquility and have our conversations. Sometimes we encounter very different things. Some have 'Bartın çiftetelli' playing, and some have 'Azdavaylı Safiye.' It doesn't work while praying. It causes distraction."
HE ALSO GAVE RINGTONE SUGGESTIONS
Ay continued his remarks: "It clashes a bit. Please be careful. Therefore, when setting ringtones, choose pleasant sounds like bird songs or rain sounds, nice things like that. The best is to silence it, but instead of putting different music like çiftetelli, let's put beautiful things like bird songs or rain sounds so that when we forget to silence it, we hear the bird song."
After the warnings in the short sermon, the imam and the congregation performed the evening prayer without any phone ringtones ringing.
