In the case involving 25 defendants, including former Avcılar Mayor Hanay Handan Toprak Benli, who was arrested on charges of corruption in the tenders held by the Avcılar Municipality, a verdict has been reached. Benli was sentenced to a total of 10 years and 5 months in prison, but the announcement of the verdict was postponed.
A decision has been made in the case where 25 defendants, including Erkan Karaarslan and the CHP's Avcılar Municipality tender commission president and members, are being tried for the allegation of corruption in the tenders held by the Avcılar Municipality in 2015-2016.
10 YEARS AND 5 MONTHS IN PRISON FOR THE FORMER MAYOR
In the hearing held at the Küçükçekmece 6th High Criminal Court, former Avcılar Mayor Hanay Handan Toprak Benli received a total sentence of 10 years and 5 months in prison for the crimes of 'manipulating the tender', 'forgery in official documents', and 'forgery in private documents'. Additionally, Benli was sentenced to 2 years in prison for the crime of 'abuse of office', but the announcement of the verdict was postponed.
PENALTIES IMPOSED
Erkan Karaarslan, who is said to have provided consultancy to some municipalities, received 5 years and 6 months for the crime of 'manipulating the tender', 1 year, 9 months, and 5 days for the crime of 'instigating the abuse of office in a chain manner', 5 years and 6 months for the crime of 'instigating forgery in official documents in a chain manner', 2 years and 9 months for the crime of 'forgery in private documents', and 3 years and 4 months in prison for the crime of 'transferring assets abroad'. Different penalties were also imposed on other defendants in the case.
