Due to the impact of global trade wars, gold prices have reached record levels worldwide, and with the addition of high inflation in Turkey, the precious metal has been gaining value increasingly. However, this increase in the value of gold against the Turkish lira is causing salaries to erode. At current prices, the Republic gold coin is below the minimum wage amount.
The minimum wage in Turkey, which is 22,104 lira, has fallen behind the record-breaking price of the Republic gold due to recent price increases. It has once again been highlighted that high inflation directly affects both the living standards of wage earners and the overall economic situation.
With the resulting gap, the price of Republic gold has come back to the agenda. In 2003, it was possible to buy 2.5 pieces of Republic gold with the minimum wage each month, but after the latest pricing, it has become impossible to buy even 1 piece of Republic gold with the minimum wage.
GOLD PRICES BREAK RECORDS AGAINST THE TURKISH LIRA
As a result of U.S. President Donald Trump's trade war, the price of gold per ounce has increased globally, pushing the price of Republic gold in Turkey to 22,300 lira.
GRAM GOLD
Gram gold started the day at 3,357 lira. During the day, the lowest level was 3,341 lira, and the highest was 3,360 lira. Currently, it is being bought at 3,345 lira.
OUNCE GOLD
Ounce gold started the day at 2,897 dollars. During the day, the lowest level was 2,883 dollars, and the highest was 2,900 dollars. Currently, it is being traded at 2,888 dollars.
GOLD IN THE GRAND BAZAAR
In the Grand Bazaar, gram gold is being bought at 3,387 lira and sold at 3,434 lira.
