The defendant, who is being tried for allegedly killing a couple returning from the field with a tractor in the Taşköprü district of Kastamonu, appeared before the judge for the first time.
At the hearing at the Kastamonu 2nd High Criminal Court, the defendant N.A., who is being held in custody on charges of "intentional murder," was present along with the relatives of the deceased couple, Sinan and Kadriye Abak, and their attorneys. In his defense during the hearing, N.A. stated that his grandson was receiving university education.
"HE GAVE DRUGS TO MY GRANDSON AND KIDNAPPED HIM"
N.A. indicated that his grandson was taken to the city center by his neighbor Sinan Abak for a while, and later he learned that Abak had kidnapped his grandson by giving him drugs and sleeping pills.
N.A. reported that he sent his grandson to Istanbul after the incident and noted: "However, after the kidnapping, threats and stalking continued. On the day of the incident, my wife and I were going to the field. We encountered Sinan on a narrow land road. There was a mowing machine behind his tractor. I gave way for him to pass by going backward, but instead of passing through the way I cleared, he stopped in front of me. He cursed and threatened me and put his hand on his waist. Then I heard a gunshot. I thought he would kill us. I fired in order to protect myself and my wife. I did not aim. I do not remember how many shots I fired because I was in a panic. After the incident, I went home and called 112 and the gendarmerie myself."
The court panel decided to continue N.A.'s detention and postponed the hearing to complete the deficiencies.
