In the Ansır Caves located in the Yazıhan district of Malatya, the massive rock fragments that broke off after the earthquakes on February 6, 2023, and the sounds that are occasionally heard are causing concern among the residents.
Mysterious sounds are being heard in the historical caves of Buzluk Neighborhood, which bear traces from the Roman and Hittite periods, following the earthquakes on February 6.
In the caves of Buzluk Neighborhood, located in Yazıhan district and believed to date back to the 7th century BC, large rocks have fallen after the earthquake, blocking the roads, and it has been reported that rock falls continue to occur from time to time in the area. Residents of the region stated that the caves, which were being worked on to be turned into a tourist attraction before the earthquakes, have now turned into a "point of fear," expressing their reluctance to visit the area due to the risks posed by the caves.
"WE ARE AFRAID TO GO TO THE AREA"
Residents of the region, Nihat Kızılkaya and Ahmet Faruk Kızılkaya, expressed that they are more concerned about the rocks falling from the caves than the destruction of their homes in the earthquakes, saying, "We experienced a kind of apocalypse during the earthquake. Huge rocks blocked the roads. Even now, pieces of rock are falling from time to time. For this reason, we are afraid to go to the area," they said.
