In the Kadirli district of Osmaniye, the vendor Buse Küçükkaya, who sells dried fruits at the local market, stated that due to the frost events seen in many provinces of Turkey, there has been an average increase of 300% in the wholesale prices of the products they buy.

"WE DON'T EVEN KNOW HOW WE WILL MAKE SALES"

Vendor Küçükkaya said: "We sell dried fruits at the local market in Kadirli. After the frost event last week, we were buying products for 80 liras wholesale, and it has risen to 360 liras. We were buying large yellow apricots for 150 liras, and it has increased to 500 liras. We were buying sun-dried fruits for 150 liras wholesale, and it has risen to 600 liras. For example, we were buying yellow plum dried fruits for 100 liras, and now it has increased to 300 liras; it varies. We don't even know how we will make sales. As prices increase, no one is buying; I don't know how that will work. Because of the frost, prices keep rising, and there is also next year to consider; it will keep increasing."

"IT IS DOUBTFUL THAT SEVENTY PERCENT OF OUR TREES WILL LEAF OUT"

Apricot producer and wholesale marketer Recep Öztürk stated, "I am from Malatya, and right now, there is not even sumac in our hometown of Malatya for eating. You have no chance of picking any fruit. It is doubtful that seventy percent of our trees will leaf out. Prices for goods that were 80 liras are currently 350 liras. What will happen to a tree that has seventy percent of its leaves burned?"

Prices will be sold in pharmacies; if it continues like this, it will be sold in pharmacies. It will be sold by the piece in pharmacies or at the market. There is no chance of coming to the market anyway. People cannot find and eat the goods of Turkey, the goods of Malatya. How long will it take? At least three years. I don't think it will return to normal after three years because when it does, it won't even cover the effort; if it doesn't happen, what good is the money?" he said.
