A woman in her 40s, who presented to the hospital due to swelling in the abdominal area, was found to have a large mass weighing approximately 10 kilograms in her abdomen during the examinations. The mass was successfully removed without being ruptured during the operation.

IT REMINDED OF SOMEONE PREPARING FOR CHILDBIRTH

General Surgery Specialist Op. Dr. Coşkun Özer stated that the scene he encountered during the patient's initial examination resembled someone preparing for childbirth, saying, "In reality, we were facing a 10-kilogram mass. There was a large, mobile, cystic structure in the abdominal area. Our patient had applied to various hospitals for a long time, many tests had been done, but she had never been taken for surgery. When she came to us, she was quite exhausted both physically and psychologically."

MASS REMOVED WITHOUT RUPTURING

Emphasizing that a multidisciplinary team effort was carried out due to the risks of such a large surgery, Dr. Özer said, "We worked together with our obstetrics, radiology, and anesthesia specialists. We examined the location of the mass in detail and meticulously planned every step against possible complications. It was a successful operation."

Stating that the most important priority during the surgery was to remove the mass without rupturing it, Özer noted, "One of the biggest risks in such cysts is the presence of cancer cells inside and the mass spreading during the surgery. This can seriously affect the patient's prognosis. As a team, we worked very carefully and removed the mass in a controlled manner. Then, a frozen (rapid) biopsy was performed, and the result came back clean. This was a great relief for the entire team."

"HER QUALITY OF LIFE HAD DECREASED"

Dr. Özer stated that the patient's quality of life had significantly decreased before the operation, but she is now living a healthy and happy life, saying, "She was living with constipation, difficulty urinating, nausea, and groin pain. She couldn't lie on her back and was moving almost like a pregnant woman. Now she is under control and continues her life comfortably."

Highlighting the contribution of surgery to human life, Dr. Özer said, "We surgeons love to touch patients, to be a breath of life for them. That's why we say 'we love not the cancer, but its surgery.'

"CHANGES IN THE BODY SHOULD NOT BE IGNORED"

Dr. Özer issued an important warning to women, stating, "Any mass, swelling, pain, or changes in shape noticed in the abdomen, breast, or any part of the body should never be taken lightly. Delaying by saying 'it will pass' or 'it's insignificant' can lead to very serious consequences later. Early diagnosis saves lives."
