A 29-year-old Russian swimmer, Nikolai Svechnikov, has gone missing during the Istanbul Bosphorus Intercontinental Swimming Race. Search efforts are ongoing to find the swimmer.
Russian swimmer Nikolai Svechnikov went missing during the 37th Bosphorus Intercontinental Swimming Race held in Istanbul. The search for the swimmer is ongoing.
MISSING
The 37th Bosphorus Intercontinental Swimming Race was held yesterday in the Bosphorus. The race started in Kanlıca, Beykoz and ended in Kuruçeşme. While all swimmers exited, 29-year-old Russian swimmer Nikolai Svechnikov could not reach the shore.
SEARCH OPERATIONS CONTINUE
After only Svechnikov failed to exit among 3,000 competitors, the police and the Coast Guard Marmara and Straits Regional Command were notified. Acting on the report, police and Coast Guard teams initiated a search operation.
It was learned that Russian swimmer Svechnikov arrived in Istanbul on Saturday and checked into a hotel in Beyoğlu. The search efforts for the swimmer continue today.
