Two brothers who started breeding 4 Çeşme sakızı sheep for hobby purposes in the Pamukkale district of Denizli have reached a flock of 600 small ruminants in 6 years. The brothers stated that they achieve a milk yield of up to 250 liters annually, saying, "We milk them, make cheese, and sell it. There are many who want the female offspring, but we don't give them away; we keep them for ourselves."

The Doğan brothers, Atilla and Cemil, known for their Sakız breed sheep that give birth to triplets, quadruplets, and quintuplets, achieved great success in small ruminant production that they started in 2020 in the Pınarkent neighborhood of Pamukkale district.

The Doğan brothers attracted the attention of many people with the productivity they achieved. Atilla Doğan (47) stated that they were engaged in cattle and goat breeding before 2020, but sold all of them after incurring losses.

Doğan, who mentioned that they worked in the textile sector with his brother and started small-scale production for their own needs with 4 Sakız breed sheep they brought from Aydın for hobby purposes in 2020, said, "The sheep arrived, and when they gave birth to quadruplets and quintuplets, we bought 15 more Sakız breed small ruminants in 2021. These animals were very productive. Our livestock increased rapidly. There were no other animals; we continued like this. We sold the males and included the females in the herd. Our number of sheep in Sakız has exceeded 600 to date. We sold around 400, and we currently have a herd of over 200. Our sheep are very fertile, the last one gave birth to nine; one of them. It gave birth to quintuplets in its first birth, and in the second, it was nine. The lambs were born weighing between 200 and 400 grams," he said.

"IF YOU TAKE GOOD CARE, THE YIELD IS HIGH"

Doğan stated that Sakız breed sheep give birth twice a year if well cared for, saying, "If you take good care, the yield is high. Many wanted breeding stock from us. We gave them to our relatives and acquaintances," he said.

Doğan reported that experts from the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry and Pamukkale University came, stating, "We will carry out a project with Pamukkale University. They will take my lambs and breed them. They will check their blood and DNA," he expressed.
