The Japanese government stated that the comparison made by the United States between its airstrikes on Iran's nuclear facilities and the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki during World War II is "extremely regrettable."
According to a report by the Kyodo agency, Japan's Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga reacted to U.S. President Donald Trump's comparison of attacks on Iran to the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki during a press conference.
"EXTREMELY SAD"
Describing Trump's comparison as "extremely sad," Suga expressed his belief that it was made "to justify the atomic bomb attacks."
Suga stated, "It is important to increase efforts to create a world free of nuclear weapons with the belief that the destruction experienced in Hiroshima and Nagasaki should never be repeated, and with a realistic and practical perspective."
TRUMP: I DON'T WANT TO USE THE HIROSHIMA EXAMPLE
During a speech at the NATO Leaders Summit held in The Hague, Netherlands, Trump said regarding the attacks on Iran's nuclear facilities carried out over the weekend, "I don't want to use the Hiroshima example. I don't want to use the Nagasaki example either. But that's exactly what happened. It ended that war."
The Japanese government had previously stated that it was pleased and hopeful about the ceasefire between Israel and Iran.
