U.S. President Donald Trump made statements regarding the latest developments in Iran during a ceremony at the White House where he signed presidential decrees.

Trump stated that the killing of protesters in Iran would be investigated by the relevant authorities, saying, "We have been informed that executions have been halted in Iran. There is currently no execution plan or death penalty. If such a thing happens, we will all be saddened. However, according to the information I have received, executions have stopped. They will not carry out executions."
"WE ARE CURRENTLY MONITORING THE SITUATION"
In response to a question about whether a military attack on Iran has been ruled out, Trump said, "We will see how the process develops in Iran. There have been very good explanations from people who know what is happening. We are currently monitoring the situation."
INTERVENTION ALLEGATIONS ON THE AGENDA
Meanwhile, Trump's statement came at a time when the possible intervention of the U.S. in Iran was being discussed. A Western military official, who spoke to the British press on condition of anonymity, stated, "All signs indicate that a U.S. attack is imminent, but this administration is acting this way to keep everyone on alert. Unpredictability is part of the strategy."
Two unnamed European officials also said that Washington's military intervention in Iran could occur within the next 24 hours. An unnamed Israeli official indicated that, although the scope and timing are uncertain, it is understood that Trump has decided to intervene.
PROTESTS IN IRAN
Protests initiated by shopkeepers in the Grand Bazaar of Tehran on December 28, 2025, due to the significant devaluation of the local currency against foreign currencies and economic issues, spread to many cities across the country. The Iran Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) reported on January 14 that the number of deaths due to the protests had risen to 2,550, including 147 security personnel. No official statement has yet been made by Iranian authorities regarding those killed or injured in the protests. Following an increase in violent incidents and police intervention during the protests, internet access was cut off nationwide on January 9.
