U.S. President Donald Trump made a notable statement on the 27th day of the war between the U.S.-Israel and Iran. Emphasizing that the U.S. has no need for NATO, Trump stated, "They have not provided us with any assistance regarding Iran. Never forget this very important turning point."

While the war between the US-Israel and Iran continues with all its violence on its 27th day, the claims of negotiation talks are also maintaining their place on the agenda.

TRUMP SPIT FIRE AT NATO

While the world is waiting for the war to end as soon as possible, another striking message came from US President Donald Trump. Trump made a post on his social media account, officially spitting fire at NATO.

"THEY HAVE NOT HELPED AT ALL ON IRAN"

Trump stated, "NATO countries have done nothing to help regarding Iran. The US has no need for NATO. Never forget this very important turning point."

TRUMP-NATO CRISIS

The tension between Trump and NATO in the context of the Iran war is primarily shaped by the US's request for military support from its allies but not receiving a response. Trump wanted to involve NATO countries in the process, especially to open the Strait of Hormuz and expand operations against Iran, but many countries, especially in Europe, refused to participate directly in this war.

This situation has led to Trump's harsh outbursts. Trump, who described NATO countries as "insufficient" and even "cowardly," argues that the US bears a significant financial and military burden for the alliance, yet is left alone in a critical war.

The NATO side, on the other hand, views this war as a process initiated by the US and not sufficiently consulted. European countries believe that entering into direct conflict with Iran would escalate the regional war, deepen the energy crisis, and put their own security at risk.

As a result, the Iran war has created a serious divergence between Trump's "allies must also fight" approach and NATO's "limited support, avoidance of direct conflict" line; this is turning into an open crisis of trust and strategy within the alliance.

DID NATO GET INVOLVED IN THE IRAN WAR?

NATO has not directly taken sides in the war against Iran. No joint military operation decision has been made as an alliance, and NATO's official line is to not get involved in the conflict at an institutional level. The most important reason for this situation is that NATO's collective defense mechanism only comes into play in the event of a direct attack on a member country, and the tensions with Iran are not evaluated within this scope.

Nevertheless, some NATO member countries can provide limited contributions, especially in terms of logistical support to the US, opening their bases, or sharing intelligence. However, these supports are not under the NATO umbrella; they occur in line with the countries' own national decisions. A large portion of European countries is avoiding direct conflict with Iran; the view that this would escalate the regional war, deepen the energy crisis, and put their own security at risk is prominent.

As a result, NATO is not an active military party in the Iran war; it is more in a position trying to maintain diplomatic balance, with different approaches among its members, and therefore unable to reach a common intervention decision.

US-ISRAEL'S ATTACKS ON IRAN

While negotiations continue between the Tehran and Washington administrations, Israel and the US launched a military attack on Iran on February 28. Iran responded with attacks on targets it identified in some regional countries, including Qatar, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Bahrain, where US bases are located, in addition to Israel.

In the US-Israel attacks, many high-ranking officials, including Iranian leader Ali Khamenei, were killed. According to Iranian officials, the death toll from the US-Israel attacks has exceeded 1,348, and the number of injured has surpassed 17,000.
