U.S. President Donald Trump issued his clearest threat to Iran, where protests driven by economic reasons have turned cities into a firestorm. Trump said, "If people are killed in Iran, we will intervene, we will strike."

Protests that started due to the unstoppable decline of the local currency's exchange rates and the high cost of living in Iran have not subsided. While demonstrators experienced fierce clashes with security forces, a new statement came from U.S. President Donald Trump.

TRUMP: WE WILL STRIKE IF PEOPLE ARE KILLED IN IRAN

Speaking at a press conference at the White House, Trump threatened to strike Iran. He stated, "If people are killed in Iran, we will intervene, we will strike."

"IRAN IS IN BIG TROUBLE"

In response to a question about Iran, Trump also said, "Iran is in big trouble. It seems to me that the people are taking over some cities; a few weeks ago, no one thought this would be possible. We are watching the situation very closely."

On the other hand, Trump had also made threats against Iran in a previous statement. Claiming that people in Iran have been "ruthlessly struck" in the past, Trump said, "They played hard. If they do this (again), we will hit them very hard. We can hit them hard. We are ready to do this."

HAMANEY: IF TRUMP CAN DO IT, LET HIM GOVERN HIS OWN COUNTRY

Iranian leader Ali Khamenei stated that during the protests initiated due to economic problems in the country, some groups destroyed public property "to please" U.S. President Donald Trump, saying to Trump, "If he can do it, let him govern his own country."

PROTESTS IN IRAN

On December 28, 2025, protests initiated by shopkeepers in the Grand Bazaar of Tehran due to the significant devaluation of the local currency against foreign currencies and economic problems spread to many cities in the country.

While no official statement has been made regarding those killed or injured in the protests, the U.S.-based Iran Human Rights Activists News Agency reported that so far, 42 people, including 8 security personnel, have lost their lives in the protests, dozens have been injured, and 2,277 people have been detained.
