As the advance of armed opposition groups against Assad continues in Syria, a critical statement regarding developments in Syria has come from U.S. President Joe Biden.
THE U.S. HAS GIVEN ASSAD A FEW DAYS TO LIVE
An American official speaking to CNN International stated, "The Biden administration is increasingly seeing the likelihood that the Bashar Assad regime could fall within a few days, as it monitors the significant momentum of the Syrian opposition."
OPPOSITION FORCES IN DAMASCUS
Groups advancing against regime forces in the southwest of Syria's capital, Damascus, have begun to enter the southern suburbs of the capital. The opposition is expected to reach the center of Damascus within a few hours.
DEVELOPMENTS IN SYRIA
On November 27, clashes began between Assad regime forces and anti-regime armed groups in the western countryside of Aleppo province in northern Syria. On November 30, anti-regime groups took control of a large part of central Aleppo from regime forces and established dominance across Idlib that same day.
After intense clashes, the groups captured the city center of Hama from regime forces on December 5. Anti-regime groups began to advance by seizing some settlements in the strategically important Homs province, which opens to the capital, Damascus.
On December 6, military opposition forces launched an operation in Daraa province, near the Jordanian border, and after clashes, they regained control of the provincial center from regime forces. In the Freedom Dawn Operation initiated by the Syrian National Army against the terrorist organization PKK/YPG in the rural areas of Aleppo on December 1, the district center of Tel Rifat was liberated from terrorism.
