The scandal involving a gang that provided unfair profits by transferring newborn babies to contracted hospitals in Istanbul and caused their deaths through negligent behavior has become a hot topic in Turkey. Following the opening of an investigation into the "Newborn Gang," which is responsible for the deaths of 12 babies, reactions from politicians have risen against the then Istanbul Provincial Health Director, Health Minister Kemal Memişoğlu, on the grounds of negligence. Ümit Özdağ, the Chairman of the Victory Party, made a press statement in front of the Istanbul Provincial Health Directorate and laid a black wreath, stating, "Do the dead babies enter your dreams at night? How does it feel to eat the rights of these babies? The political responsibility for these events lies with both current and former health ministers." The party launched a social media campaign calling for Memişoğlu's resignation, stating, "The political responsibility for the deaths of our 12 babies in hospitals lies with the Health Minister." "WE WANT OUR BABIES IN THEIR MOTHERS' ARMS, NOT IN COFFINS"After the emergence of the Newborn Gang, calls for resignation from politicians and citizens for Health Minister Kemal Memişoğlu, who was the Provincial Health Director at the time, began to rise on social media.
