"I TRIED TO SELL MY SOUL TO THE DEVIL" DEFENSE
In his previous statement, the defendant Erkan Baykut stated that he was remorseful and said, "I planned to kill Ramazan Pişkin because I mistook him for someone else. I thought he was Saboor Muradi from Afghanistan. He got me involved in drugs when I was 17 and made me do unspeakable things. He tried to sell my soul to the devil. He is a member of the Masonic organization illuminati gang. That's why my mental state is not good. I am ashamed in front of his family."
CALL FOR FAMILY MEMBERS TO BE HEARD AS WITNESSES
In the defense statement regarding the merits, the lawyer of the defendant Erkan Baykut argued that his client is not mentally stable and requested a forensic medicine report on this matter, and also requested that the defendant's family members be heard as witnesses.
"I AM AWARE THAT HE WAS AN INNOCENT PERSON"
The court asked the defendant if he agreed with his lawyer's requests. Baykut said, "If someone had instigated me, I wouldn't hide it from the state." In his final words, the defendant said, "I am aware that Ramazan Pişkin was an innocent person. I am aware that he was a person fighting for Islam. I am remorseful."
UNREDUCED AGGRAVATED LIFE IMPRISONMENT
The court announced its verdict and sentenced the defendant Baykut to aggravated life imprisonment for "premeditated intentional murder". The court stated that the defendant did not show any signs of remorse during the trial and did not apply any reduction in the sentence.
