The Ministry of Trade has warned citizens about the increasing cases of fraud on social media and digital platforms. There has been a significant rise in scams involving the sale of counterfeit products, bungalow reservations, fake accounts, and phishing attempts. The ministry advised against sending money through methods other than secure payment options and urged people not to click on suspicious links.

The Ministry of Trade issued warnings and information regarding fraudulent activities conducted through fake product sales on social media and digital platforms, counterfeit accounts, phishing attempts, deceptive bookings, fake lotteries, and advertisements, as well as attacks on bank accounts and personal data. In a written statement from the ministry, it was stated, "As the Ministry of Trade, we strongly advise our citizens to be cautious against the increasing shopping trend in digital platforms and the diversifying methods of fraud. In the latest complaints received by the Ministry of Trade, it has been determined that there has been a significant increase in grievances such as sending money to accounts opened under the guise of selling clothing, shoes, electrical household appliances, or bungalow accommodation reservations on social media platforms, yet the products were not delivered, the promised accommodation services were not received, refunds were not made, and communication with the seller for refunds could not be established. Please be cautious of advertisements offering popular branded electronic devices and mobile phones at prices significantly below their market value. Do not send money directly to bank accounts outside of secure payment methods. Always check whether the seller is officially registered and the validity of their contact information before making a purchase," it was stated.

BE CAREFUL WHEN CLICKING ON LINKS

Regarding frauds conducted through counterfeit accounts and fake sites, it was stated, "Some fraudsters create fake social media accounts and websites using the logos, names, and images of well-known institutions and individuals such as banks, postal companies, famous brands, and personalities; they organize fake prize and lottery campaigns, offer false subscription proposals or promises of zero-interest loans, and ensure that users click on links containing harmful software."

"ALWAYS CHECK ADDRESS INFORMATION"

The following points were listed regarding safe internet usage that citizens should pay attention to: "Always check address information in advertisements and campaigns. Do not click on links of uncertain origin. Do not download files or enter payment information through these links."

In the statement regarding phishing frauds, it was mentioned, "In some fraud attempts, personal and financial information of consumers is attempted to be captured through expressions such as delivery notification, account activation request, warning that if no action is taken, there will be a loss of rights, and promises that paid applications can be used for free via email, SMS, or mobile applications. The points that our citizens should pay attention to against phishing fraud attempts are: carefully check the sender's address in emails. Do not perform any transactions on messages claiming to be from official institutions without verification. Never share your personal information and passwords in suspicious messages. Protect your accounts by using two-factor authentication/multi-step login methods," it was stated.
