A collapse at the entrance of an apartment building in the Gebze district of Kocaeli caused panic in the neighborhood. A landslide occurred at the entrance of a 5-story apartment building located on Bahar Street in the Güzeller neighborhood, the cause of which is not yet clear.
The incident came to light when the residents of the building noticed a sudden collapse in the soil area at the entrance. Realizing the seriousness of the situation, citizens called the 112 Emergency Call Center to request help from the authorities. Municipal teams and technical personnel were dispatched to the scene shortly.
EVACUATION DECISION TAKEN
Initial technical inspections assessed that the collapse in the ground could pose a risk to the building. To prevent a possible danger, the 5-story apartment building with a collapse at its entrance and 6 adjacent houses were evacuated as a precaution. A total of 22 apartments were sealed, and the residents were removed from their homes.
TEMPORARY SHELTER OPPORTUNITY FOR CITIZENS
Some of the evacuated citizens settled with their relatives, while it was reported that social facilities belonging to the municipality were prepared for those without a place to stay. Authorities stated that all necessary precautions were taken to ensure that citizens do not suffer.
INVESTIGATION INITIATED
The area was closed off with a security cordon, and it was learned that AFAD and geological engineers would initiate a comprehensive investigation to determine the cause of the ground movement. It was expressed that the teams were conducting the process meticulously due to similar incidents that had occurred in the region recently.

One of the evacuated residents described the fear they experienced, saying, "When we saw the soil at the entrance of the building suddenly collapse, we panicked greatly. The teams came and said we needed to evacuate the building for our safety. We had to leave without even taking our belongings."
