SEVERE EARTHQUAKES IN ALASKA

Two consecutive earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.3 occurred off the coast of the Alaska Peninsula. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) announced that the epicenter of the earthquakes was approximately 87 kilometers south of Sand Point. The USGS noted that the two tremors occurred in a very close time frame and that the data is preliminary.

TSUNAMI WARNING ISSUED

Following the earthquakes, a tsunami warning was issued for coastal areas. Residents in coastal regions were urged to move to higher ground.
