The forest fire that has been ongoing for 42 hours in Şarköy, Tekirdağ, and has spread to Çanakkale, has been partially brought under control with the help of 19 firefighting helicopters and nearly 500 ground vehicles. During the firefighting efforts, 22 people, including 3 officials, were hospitalized due to smoke inhalation. In the İstiklal neighborhood of Şarköy district in Tekirdağ, 42 hours have passed in the fight against the forest fire that started on Tuesday, July 15, in agricultural land and spread to the Gelibolu district of Çanakkale.
PARTIALLY BROUGHT UNDER CONTROL
With the intervention of 15 firefighting planes, 19 firefighting helicopters, nearly 500 ground vehicles, and 1181 personnel, the fire has been partially brought under control. Water trucks, fire engines, and tankers continue their work in the area. It has been observed that the density of smoke has decreased as the wind in the region has lost its effect. Tekirdağ Governor Recep Soytürk and General Director of Forestry Bekir Karacabey are managing the operations from AFAD's Mobile Coordination Center in the area.
22 PEOPLE HOSPITALIZED
On the other hand, the forested area affected by the fire was captured by drone footage. During the firefighting efforts, 22 people, including 3 personnel, were hospitalized due to smoke inhalation.
4 NEIGHBORHOODS EVACUATED
Under the coordination of the Tekirdağ Governorship, 1,320 citizens were evacuated by AFAD from the neighborhoods of Şenköy, Yeniköy, Kocaali, and Kızılcaterzi. Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Yumaklı stated, "Some of these citizens have returned to their homes after ensuring that there is no danger in these neighborhoods. However, we do not want citizens who may need to be evacuated to return without certainty. Our governorship, in coordination with AFAD, has ensured that these citizens are accommodated in relevant places."
STATEMENT FROM MINISTER KURUM
Minister of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change Murat Kurum made a statement on his social media account regarding the fires that occurred in Çanakkale, Bolu, and Tekirdağ. Expressing his condolences to the citizens affected by the fires, Kurum reported that teams have started damage assessment work in the areas where the fires have been brought under control.
Kurum continued his statement as follows: "So far, in the Naldöken neighborhood of Ayvacık, Çanakkale, 2 houses and 5 barns, in the Çamyurdu village of Mudurnu, Bolu, 6 houses, 1 barn, and 9 haylofts, and in Tekirdağ Şarköy, where firefighting efforts are ongoing, 1 vineyard house and 3 haylofts have been identified as severely damaged. Once our work is completed, we will take the necessary steps quickly."
