In Kars, a shepherd who lost 214 sheep in a wolf attack received 111 sheep as part of a campaign launched throughout the district, while donations made by students from their piggy banks became a symbol of solidarity.
On January 27, a wolf entered a barn in Bostankale village, located in the Digor district of Kars, and attacked the sheep of the shepherd Ali Canpolat. Initially, 136 sheep were lost, followed by 78 more, totaling 214 animals. Following the incident, a relief campaign was launched under the leadership of the Digor District Governorate, in collaboration with the Agricultural Chamber, the Chamber of Tradesmen and Artisans, and the Digor Muhtar Association.
MEANINGFUL SUPPORT FROM STUDENTS
Students also contributed to the campaign, which was supported by tradesmen, muhtars, and citizens across Kars, by donating their pocket money from their piggy banks. With the collected donations, 111 sheep were purchased and delivered to Ali Canpolat, while the remaining amount was given in cash. The aid was handed over to the shepherd by the Digor District Governor Ahmet Tayyib Kahraman and the members of the campaign committee with a record.
"A SOCIAL INSURANCE HAS FORMED"
Governor Ahmet Tayyib Kahraman stated that the incident was unfortunate, but the solidarity that emerged afterward was exemplary, saying, "All our muhtars, villagers, and citizens came together. They united to alleviate this great hardship. The formation of this social insurance is a very important and beautiful feeling for us. Both in-kind and cash assistance was provided. The process was carried out transparently, and our uncle's troubles were alleviated."
Kahraman expressed that the increasing amount of aid would be transferred to the Social Assistance and Solidarity Foundation and delivered to those in need during the upcoming Ramadan.
"LET'S GET TARSIM INSURANCE"
Ismet Hagi, the President of the Digor Agricultural Chamber, called on producers to obtain TARSIM insurance, stating, "The government provides premium support. If insurance had been in place, the loss could have been covered by TARSIM. This incident has been a lesson for all of us."
Tunay Buğan, the President of the Digor Muhtar Association, and Sercan Ömeroğlu, the President of the Tradesmen's Chamber, also noted that a strong example of solidarity was displayed in the district and thanked those who supported.
"I AM GRATEFUL TO THE CHILDREN"
Ali Canpolat, who lost 214 sheep in the wolf attack, expressed his gratitude to everyone who contributed to the campaign, especially the children who donated their pocket money from their piggy banks.
