The plane of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan returned on September 6 from his foreign visit, which began on August 30, using Azerbaijani airspace. The Yerevan administration considered this step, taken after 30 years, as an important development for the peace process and security environment in the region. The Azerbaijani side has not yet made an official statement.

The plane of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan was reported to have used Azerbaijani airspace. Armenian Prime Minister's Spokesperson Nazeli Baghdasaryan stated in her announcement that they requested airspace passage for Prime Minister Pashinyan's plane from Azerbaijan and received a positive response to this request.

RETURNED VIA THE SAME ROUTE

Baghdasaryan noted that Pashinyan embarked on his foreign visit using Azerbaijani airspace on August 30 and returned to the country via the same route on the night of September 6.

AN IMPORTANT DEVELOPMENT FOR THE REGION

Baghdasaryan stated that they consider this development a practical step towards opening transportation routes in the region, advancing the peace agenda, and creating an environment of mutual trust, and reminded that Azerbaijani planes conducting flights to Nakhchivan have also been using Armenian airspace for a long time.

AZERBAIJAN SIDE SILENT

While the Azerbaijani side has not yet made an official statement regarding the matter, evaluations suggest that this decision to open airspace is a strategic message to Armenia in the post-Karabakh period.
