WHAT HAPPENED?

In the Çetin Emeç neighborhood of Balçova district, E. B. went to the Salih İşgören Police Station in the morning and opened fire on the guard booth with a shotgun. Police officer Hasan Akın was martyred in the attack, and upon hearing the gunfire, police officers on duty intervened against the attacker. A conflict broke out between the police and the attacker. In the clash, 1st Class Police Chief Inspector Muhsin Aydemir was also martyred. Health teams were dispatched to the station upon notification. Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç also announced that an investigation has been initiated regarding the attack, and 2 Deputy Chief Public Prosecutors along with 6 public prosecutors have been assigned.

After the attack, İzmir Governor Süleyman Elban made statements at the police station. Elban said, "A 16-year-old high school junior, a person with no prior criminal record, carried out the attack. The first shot was fired at the guard booth, and unfortunately, one of our police officers was injured and martyred in the gunfire. Later, during the efforts to capture him, our police chief inspector, who resides in the lodge, was also martyred in the ensuing conflict. One of our police officers and one chief inspector were martyred in the conflict. 2 of our police officers are under treatment in the hospital. This is a busy street, and one of our citizens was lightly injured in the conflict. The attacker was captured injured. His treatment continues at Alsancak State Hospital. A publication ban has been imposed regarding the attack in which 2 police officers were martyred and 2 others were injured at the police station in the Balçova district of İzmir. Ahmet Babacan, a resident of the neighborhood, recounted the events. Babacan said, "I heard gunshots in the morning.

Then I heard my neighbor shouting, 'There is an attack on the police station.' When I went out to the balcony, my opposite neighbor said, 'Under your balcony.' When he pointed, he shot at my neighbor too, and he was injured. He started running towards the end of the street. When we saw this, we went downstairs. There was a police officer following him. Our police officer was also shot. Another plainclothes police officer arrived. The arriving police officer also started shooting. A mutual conflict broke out. We were behind him. We were pointing.

When he said that, he threw a sound bomb towards us. He had a rifle in his hand.
