The incident occurred in August 2024 at a cafe in the Hwado-myeon area of Ganghwa Island. According to court records, the husband had fallen asleep while drinking alone at the cafe. The woman devised a horrific plan, suspecting that her husband was cheating on her.
The woman's 40-year-old son-in-law was also involved. He entered the cafe and tied up the husband with rope and tape. Then the woman attacked her husband with about 50 knife blows and cut off his penis with a sharp instrument. The woman made it impossible for the severed genitalia to be surgically reattached by throwing it into the toilet of the cafe.
The victim was taken to the hospital by emergency services and underwent surgery. He survived, but was seriously injured both physically and psychologically.
After the incident, the husband reached a reconciliation with his wife and asked the court for mercy. Considering this request, the court sentenced the woman to 7 years in prison and her son-in-law B to 4 years in prison. The two were separately brought before the Incheon District Court in January.
Police officials stated that the woman had planned the attack in advance and used her daughter to monitor her husband. The couple's daughter was fined 3 million KRW (approximately £1,514) for illegally tracking her father with GPS.
