The court then applied 'unjust provocation' and 'sentencing reduction', reducing the defendant's sentence to 15 years.
On August 13, 2024, around 10:00 PM, those who heard gunshots in the Beşköprü neighborhood of Ortaca reported the situation to the 112 Emergency Call Center.
HE KILLED HIS FRIEND WITH A GUN
Upon the notification, health and police teams were dispatched to the scene. The health team determined that Mutlu Kılınç had been shot in the right chest with a shotgun, and he died at Ortaca State Hospital where he was taken. The Public Order Bureau teams identified the suspect who fled the scene as Furkan Kesgin.
"IT WAS SAID HE WAS WITH MY STEPMOTHER"
Kesgin, who was caught with an unlicensed shotgun, stated in his police testimony, "Zafer Z. (19) told me that Mutlu was with my stepmother. I got angry and called Mutlu over. Mutlu, who came by motorcycle, along with Zafer Z. and Okan G. (19), started running towards me. I fired the shotgun to defend myself and saw that Mutlu was injured. I got scared and ran away from the scene."
HE WAS ARRESTED
After Furkan Kesgin's statement, Zafer Z. and Okan G. were also detained. The three suspects were referred to the courthouse after their procedures at the police station. The suspects were arrested by the court they were brought before. In the following process, Zafer Z. and Okan G. were released to be tried without detention.
SENTENCING REDUCTION WAS APPLIED, HE WAS SENTENCED TO 15 YEARS
A case was opened against the suspects at the Fethiye 3rd High Criminal Court. The 5th hearing of the case was held today. The detained defendant Furkan Kesgin, along with the attorneys of the parties and the attorney of Zafer Z., attended the hearing. Okan G. participated in the hearing via SEGBİS.
During the hearing, B.C.T. was heard as a witness. B.T.C. stated that there had been a feud between Kesgin and the deceased Mutlu Kılınç for a while due to Furkan Kesgin's stepmother, and that the parties had previously exchanged insults over the phone.
The court sentenced Kesgin to life imprisonment for 'intentional murder'. The panel applied 'unjust provocation' and 'sentencing reduction', reducing the defendant's sentence to 15 years. Okan G. and Zafer Z., who were tried without detention, were acquitted.
