A professor and his secretary working at Aydın Adnan Menderes University (ADÜ) Application and Research Hospital were detained by police teams on the grounds of allegedly receiving bribes under the name of 'knife money' from patients and their relatives.

The Aydın Provincial Police Department's Smuggling and Organized Crime Fighting Branch (KOM) teams received information that Prof. Dr. U.G., who works at ADÜ Application and Research Hospital, made unlawful financial demands from some patients.

REQUESTED MONEY FROM 14 PATIENTS

Investigations revealed that 14 different relatives of patients had given money to Dr. U.G. before their surgical procedures. Acting on the evidence obtained, KOM teams detained Prof. Dr. U.G. and his secretary D.K. in a simultaneous operation.

900 THOUSAND LIRA IN CASH FOUND AT THE PROFESSOR'S HOUSE

It was learned that approximately 900 thousand TL in cash was seized during a search at U.G.'s residence, while checks at his workplace revealed a notebook believed to contain records of patient payments. It was reported that the doctor and his secretary were referred to the courthouse and that their procedures are ongoing. An investigation into the incident is continuing.
