Due to coastal erosion affecting a specific part of the coastline in the Karasu district of Sakarya, the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change has initiated a comprehensive study in the area following the collapse of villas and pools in an old holiday village. On the other hand, the images from the region captured by cameras are quite frightening.
The old holiday village, located on the coast of Karasu district in Sakarya and one of the popular projects of a bygone era, has reached the point of collapse due to the waves eroding the shore.
MINISTRY HAS INITIATED WORK
Upon the danger experienced in the region, the ministry teams took action and implemented the project to stop coastal erosion. Şefik Kır, the Muhtar of Karasu Neighborhood, stated that the ongoing fortification works would protect the coastline.
"THE SEA WAS AT LEAST 100 METERS AHEAD"
Providing information about the history of the area affected by coastal erosion, Muhtar Şefik Kır said, "Construction began in 1985 with a special permit for the holiday village. The construction was completed between 1990 and 1995. When it was about to be opened to tourism, coastal erosion also became evident. The sea was at least 100 meters ahead on this beach. Today, the sea has come inland and reached zero. A precaution needed to be taken here as well."
"CONSTRUCTION OF THE COASTAL PROTECTION WALL HAS ACTUALLY STARTED"
Kır expressed his satisfaction with the project, which has been awaited for years, moving to the implementation phase, saying, "We have been following the coastal protection wall project, which is approximately 13-14 years old, for two years. Currently, the breakwater work and the construction of the coastal protection wall have actually started at the point where Maden Stream meets the Black Sea."
With the completion of the works in the region, it is planned to prevent other structures along the coastline from facing a similar danger.
