While the silent cancellation of money points and reward advantages offered to consumers through loyalty cards at the end of the year has sparked debate, İbrahim Güllü, Vice President of TÜKONFED, emphasized that the cancellation of points carried out without clear information is unlawful. He urged consumers to use their points without waiting for the end of the year to avoid any loss of rights.
Credit cards and loyalty cards used in many sectors such as market, fuel, clothing, and transportation provide consumers with discounts and cash point advantages. However, the conditions for using these points are often not well known.
WARNING TO CONSUMERS: CASH POINTS CANNOT BE DELETED WITHOUT NOTIFICATION
The resetting of cash points accumulated on cards by some companies at the end of the year creates a disadvantage for consumers. According to the Consumer Confederation (TÜKONFED), these practices are often not clearly communicated to consumers.
TÜKONFED Vice President İbrahim Güllü emphasized that if the date on which the points will be deleted is not clearly stated at the beginning of the campaign, companies do not have the unilateral right to delete points. He stated that such transactions have no legal basis.
Güllü reminded that according to the Code of Obligations, the rights of receivables are valid for 10 years, stating that point deletion transactions made without specifying an open date could be considered invalid.
CALL TO CONSUMERS: USE THEM BEFORE THE END OF THE YEAR
Finally, Güllü suggested that consumers check the validity periods of the cash points on their loyalty cards and use these points without waiting for the end of the year to avoid loss of rights.
