The Head of the Smuggling and Organized Crime Department of the Gendarmerie General Command, Brigadier General Selami Akşit, passed away due to a heart attack he suffered at home.
The Commander of the Gendarmerie General Command's Anti-Smuggling and Organized Crime Department, Brigadier General Selami Akşit, passed away in the morning due to a heart attack at his home in the Gölbaşı district of Ankara. Brigadier General Akşit's funeral will be held tomorrow in his hometown of Ereğli, Konya, after the noon prayer.
"MAY OUR NATION BE CONSOLED"
The Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced the sad news. In his statement, Minister Yerlikaya said:
"May our nation be consoled. Our Commander of the Anti-Smuggling and Organized Crime Department of the Gendarmerie General Command, Brigadier General Selami AKŞİT, has passed away due to an illness. I pray for God's mercy upon him; I extend my condolences to his family, our Heroic Gendarmerie Organization, and our Nation. May his place be paradise, and his rank be exalted."
WHO IS BRIGADIER GENERAL SELAMİ AKŞİT?
Brigadier General Selami Akşit was registered in the population of Ereğli, Konya, and served in various positions within the gendarmerie organization for many years. Akşit, who stood out with his operations against organized crime groups, drug trafficking, and smuggling, took over the position of Head of the Anti-Smuggling and Organized Crime Department as of 2023. Known for his disciplined nature and field experience, his colleagues described Akşit as "a determined and hardworking commander."
