The terrorist organization PKK announced today that it has taken another historic step by declaring its complete withdrawal from Turkey. In the written statement of the terrorist organization, it was stated, "Similar corrective measures are being taken in positions that are open to possible provocations that pose a risk of conflict in border areas." From this detail, it can be understood that the PKK will also evacuate the Zap and Metina camps and abandon the caves.

PKK IS ALSO EMPTYING CAVES It was understood that this statement meant that the organization would evacuate the Zap and Metina camps and the caves in the region. These areas also include the regions where the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) have been conducting extensive operations since May 27, 2019.
In the Pençe series operations, hundreds of caves and shelters in the region were targeted. In the Pençe series operations, the Hakurk region was primarily targeted. In the Pençe-2 operation in July 2019, a total of 433 caves and shelters were rendered unusable, and the Pençe-3 operation was carried out in the Sinat-Haftanin region.

The Pençe Şimşek operation was launched simultaneously with the Pençe Yıldırım operation in the Metina and Avaşin-Basyan regions. A total of 199 members of the separatist terrorist organization were neutralized in the Pençe Şimşek operation. Additionally, a total of 222 caves and shelters were destroyed in the operation area. In these series of operations, which ended in 2022, a total of 2,486 caves and shelters were rendered unusable, 5,022 mines and improvised explosives were destroyed, and a total of 3,415 weapons and approximately 1,391,000 ammunition were seized.
ZAP AND METINA CAMP AREAS CLOSE TO THE BORDER The Zap and Metina camp areas, which the organization will completely abandon, have long been an important shelter point for terrorist activities. Assoc. Dr. Murat Aslan explained the importance of the Metina region, where the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) are located, and why Turkish soldiers are stationed in this area as follows: "Mount Metina extends in a block shape along with the Zap extension, starting from the Zap River and located just south of our borders, extending east and west. Therefore, it is parallel to our borders."
The presence of terrorists in this region threatens the villages and outposts on the Turkish border. If Metina is controlled by terrorists, it will be easier for them to infiltrate and observe Turkey. Metina should be examined in two separate dimensions. One is the northern region of Metina, where Kani Masi stands out. This area is a rocky, stony region with no soil. Once you enter this area, you can get lost. Additionally, there are tunnels that can be traversed like a labyrinth among the natural rocks in this area. If you look at the northern part of Metina, the Amediye crater is located to the south of it, where Mount Gara is found.
