The leader of the CHP, Özgür Özel, stated that Hüseyin Gün, one of the three main suspects in the "espionage" investigation against İmamoğlu, has confessed to working with British intelligence. Özel noted that Gün had been detained months ago, while the chief prosecutor's office denied reports that there had been a decision not to prosecute Gün due to his alleged membership in FETÖ.
The investigation against Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, who is detained and suspended from duty, TELE1 General Editor Merdan Yanardağ, and Necati Özkan on charges of 'espionage' is ongoing. CHP leader Özgür Özel addressed the crowd gathered to support İmamoğlu, who was brought to the courthouse in Çağlayan to give a statement. HÜSEYİN GÜN HAS BECOME A WHISTLEBLOWER
Özgür Özel stated that Hüseyin Gün, one of the three main suspects in the investigation, has become a whistleblower and used the following expressions:
"They invented a crime called espionage. I know the 'Military Espionage in İzmir' case. Back in those days, they were tarnishing the personal honor of heroic soldiers with 'prostitution' and their professional honor with the stain of 'espionage.' On the day Kavala was released, they called him a spy, prosecuted him for espionage, acquitted him, and in the meantime, opened another case to waste time. What is happening here is a process that completely admits that the current case has collapsed and that the accusations made are slander.
Just a moment ago, we learned above that the person who was said to have leaked information along with Necati Özkan, and who Necati Özkan said, 'I saw him once after the 2019 elections, he came to sell social media analysis, we didn't buy it, he left. I haven't seen him again,' has just become a whistleblower.
He said, 'I am a British agent' as a whistleblower. I am not the person who works with British intelligence in Syria, makes plans for the Syrian regime, and conducts operations in Syria according to the plan drawn by British intelligence. It is not us, but the AKP members who are accustomed to doing these things.
The person who has become a whistleblower, I am stating this openly, is Hüseyin Gün... He was arrested on July 4. While he was in Silivri, he was taken to Ankara Sincan. He was held in Ankara for months, and many meetings were held with him. Then he returned, was interrogated here, and was supposed to become a whistleblower on the very first day. We openly state that the accusations made against our friends here are supposedly based on the data collected through the 'Istanbul is Yours' application, which are all our personal data and have fallen into the hands of foreign states.
DENIAL FROM THE PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE
The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office stated that the news regarding the suspect Hüseyin Gün, who was previously investigated for membership in the Fethullahist Terrorist Organization (FETÖ) and was not prosecuted, does not reflect the truth in the investigation initiated for the crime of 'espionage.'
In a statement made by the prosecutor's office, it was noted that "it has been understood that some media outlets have made statements regarding the person named Hüseyin Gün, who is the subject of the investigation, claiming that an investigation was conducted for FETÖ membership and that a decision of non-prosecution was given, and this information does not reflect the truth and is intended for disinformation."
