The World Air Quality Report has been published. According to the report, 5 locations from Turkey are among the places with the highest air pollution in Europe.

The World Air Quality Report published by the Swiss air monitoring agency "IQAir" analyzed data obtained from measurement stations in 9,446 cities across 143 countries and territories in 2025. Five locations from Turkey were included in the list of the highest air pollution points in Europe.

Here are the highest air pollution points in Europe:

  • Buca (Izmir), Turkey
  • Novi Pazar, Serbia
  • Gödekli (Iğdır village), Turkey
  • Prijedor, Bosnia and Herzegovina
  • Konya, Turkey
  • Gorazde, Bosnia and Herzegovina
  • Düzce, Turkey
  • Gracanica, Bosnia and Herzegovina
  • Cacak, Serbia

13 COUNTRIES MET STANDARDS

According to the report, only 14% of cities worldwide met the fine particulate matter (PM2.5) limit values set by the World Health Organization (WHO).

Only 13 countries and territories met safe air quality standards. These places were listed as French Polynesia, Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, Barbados, New Caledonia, Iceland, Bermuda, Reunion, Andorra, Australia, Grenada, Panama, and Estonia.

THE MOST POLLUTED COUNTRIES

In the ranking of "most polluted countries," Pakistan, Bangladesh, Tajikistan, Chad, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) were in the top 5. The "most polluted city" was Loni in India, while the "cleanest city" was Nieuwoudtville in South Africa. Wildfires intensified by climate change significantly worsened air quality in 2025.
