A mother of two, Burcu Hasgül, who came from France to undergo liposuction surgery at a private hospital in Gaziantep, lost her life following complications that developed after the operation.
Burcu Hasgül, a mother of two who underwent liposuction surgery at a private hospital in Gaziantep, passed away following complications that developed after the operation. After the incident, the woman, who was buried with a "normal death" report, had her body exhumed days later for an autopsy following her family's allegations of negligence against the hospital and their complaint to the prosecutor's office.
Burcu Hasgül (33), a beauty expert and mother of two living in Paris, France, allegedly underwent surgery at Gaziantep Private MMT American Hospital for liposuction.
FAINTED DURING SURGERY, PASSED AWAY
Hasgül, who fainted during the operation, had her surgery interrupted and was taken to intensive care. It was claimed that doctors stopped the operation after determining that Hasgül had factor 8 deficiency. After the intensive care process, the young woman was transferred to another private hospital but could not be saved despite all interventions.
AUTOPSY CONDUCTED AFTER FAMILY'S COMPLAINT
Hasgül's body was delivered to her family from the hospital's morgue with a "normal death" report and was buried in tears. However, days later, the family learned that another patient had also died at the same hospital with similar symptoms, raising their suspicions.
The grieving family filed a criminal complaint with the prosecutor's office, alleging negligence on the part of the management of the Private MMT American Hospital and the doctors who performed the surgery. Following the prosecutor's decision, Burcu Hasgül's grave was opened for an autopsy. The family demanded punishment for the negligent hospital and doctors.
"MY SISTER UNDERWENT LIPOSUCTION, WE RECEIVED HER CORPSE"
Yusuf Yaşar, Burcu Hasgül's brother, recounted the surgical process, stating that his sister passed away after a simple aesthetic operation.
Yusuf Yaşar said, "My sister underwent a simple aesthetic operation. She went in for a fat removal operation from the abdominal area. In the end, we received her lifeless body. On August 4, the surgery at Gaziantep Private MMT American Hospital went poorly. They could not complete the surgery. We received the news that she was taken to intensive care before they could finish. We were already against her having the surgery. She insisted on it. In fact, when she asked some doctors, some of them did not want to perform it. But the doctor at the hospital decided to proceed with the surgery, knowing the risks involved. The surgery could not be completed. They took her to intensive care. On the first day, they said some things, like her condition was bad, just that her blood values had dropped. They said they would give her blood to replace it.
They also mentioned that we would continue the surgery the next day. By the evening of the second day, they started giving us different information. This time they mentioned factor deficiency. They said there was a factor deficiency. 'This is a hereditary disease. It could also be a condition in other individuals in your family,' they said. It was a condition that occurs in one in a million. The process continued in this manner. They said, 'We need to transfer her to another intensive care unit with a hematology department and continue the process there.' But we were not informed about the seriousness of her condition. We also did our own research and asked hospitals. We could not find a place in intensive care. There is already negligence here. I suspect that a report was not made to 112. Because if a report had been made to 112, we could have found an intensive care unit more easily and quickly. I believe that it was not done," he said.
