M.E.F., who set his vehicle on fire in front of the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM), has been taken into custody. It was revealed that the individual, who works in scrap metal, set his vehicle on fire because the Special Consumption Tax (ÖTV) reduction was not approved. He has 16 separate criminal records and had also carried out a similar act in 2018.

16 CRIMINAL RECORDS AND PREVIOUS ACTION

Upon investigation, it was revealed that the suspect had 16 separate criminal records, including theft, motor vehicle theft, forgery of official documents, establishing an organization for the purpose of committing a crime, threats, and endangering public safety. It was determined that the individual, who has psychological disorders, was receiving psychiatric treatment and had previously set fire to a vehicle in front of the Mersin Courthouse in 2018. A comprehensive investigation into the incident has been initiated, and it was reported that the individual's procedures while in custody are ongoing.

Here is the statement made by the Ministry of Interior;

"At 08:55 today, an individual named M.E.F. (57) carried out an act of setting a vehicle on fire in front of the TBMM.

Upon investigation, it was determined that the individual resided in Mersin, was engaged in scrap dealing, had 12 scrap vehicles registered in his name, and was expecting an SCT discount under the 'Scrap Vehicle Incentive,' which he set his vehicle on fire due to the discount not being granted.

It was found that the individual had a record of 16 different crimes, including "Theft," "Motor Vehicle Theft," "Forgery of Official Documents," "Establishing an Organization for the Purpose of Committing a Crime," "Threats," and "Deliberately Endangering Public Safety."

It was determined that the individual, who was receiving psychiatric treatment, had also set fire to a vehicle in front of the Mersin Courthouse on May 11, 2018, stating, "I spent 10 years in prison."

A comprehensive investigation into the matter is ongoing."
