Sudden heavy rainfall in Ankara caused water accumulation and flooding in many areas, while drivers experienced difficult moments in traffic.
The Ankara Governorship stated in a post on its social media account that local heavy rainfall was expected in Ankara. The governorship warned to be cautious and prepared against negative situations such as floods, water accumulation, lightning, local hail, strong winds during rainfall, and disruptions in transportation.
HEAVY RAINFALL STRUCK AFTER WARNINGS
After the warnings, the heavy rainfall that was effective in the western part of the city during the afternoon caused disruptions in traffic on the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Boulevard, also known as Istanbul Road.
ROADS TURNED INTO PONDS
While kilometers of congestion occurred on the boulevard, the water accumulation on the roads caused drivers to experience difficult moments. Due to the waters that turned into a flood, traffic on some parts of the boulevard was reduced to just one lane.
CITIZENS PROTESTED
Citizen Hakan Çevik addressed the authorities regarding the problems experienced, saying, "This place becomes a lake every time it rains. Traffic gets stuck every time a vehicle passes. We suffer on the roads for 2-3 hours. It has been like this for 4-5 years, there is no infrastructure or anything. Shops in the industrial area have closed, they are not operating right now. The shops are underwater. Infrastructure needs to be built."
