As protests in Iran enter their eighth day, according to HRANA, demonstrations, strikes, and student actions have been organized at 222 points in 78 cities across 26 provinces. Verified data indicates that the death toll has risen to 20, with at least 51 people injured. It has been reported that the bloodiest intervention occurred in the city of Malekshahi in Ilam, where at least 5 people were killed and 30 were injured.
Protests in Iran have continued for the eighth consecutive day. According to the Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), a US-based human rights organization, demonstrations, strikes, and student protests have been held at a total of 222 locations in 78 cities across 26 provinces nationwide.
DEATH TOLL RISES TO 20
According to verified data from HRANA, at least 19 civilians and one security officer have lost their lives in the past eight days. At least 51 people have also been injured. It was reported that most of the injuries were due to birdshot and plastic bullet impacts.
SECURITY MEASURES INCREASED
HRANA reported that despite the ongoing clashes in some areas, the geographical spread of the protests has been maintained, with security measures being intensified and the presence of police and security forces on the ground increased.
CALLS FOR "REGIME CHANGE"
It was noted that the protests initially began with workers' strikes and gatherings of professional groups, and then expanded to street demonstrations, limited commercial stoppages, and student actions calling for regime change. According to HRANA, student mobilization occurred at 17 universities.
PROTESTS IN MORE THAN 20 CITIES IN 24 HOURS
In the last 24 hours, unrest has been reported in more than 20 cities. According to information shared by HRANA, cities where protests were observed include Tehran, Mashhad, Shiraz, Karaj, Qazvin, Yazd, Bandar Abbas, Tabriz, Kermanshah, Khorramabad, Shahrud, Dorud, Gachsaran, Yasuj, Bushehr, Lahijan, Nishapur, Mahallat, Rudbar, Borujerd, and Marvdasht. It was also reported that reinforcements of security forces were deployed in some areas.
"BLOODIEST INTERVENTION" IN ILAM
According to information obtained by Iran International, the bloodiest intervention occurred on Saturday in the city of Malekshahi in Ilam province in western Iran. The report stated that security forces opened fire on protesters, resulting in at least 5 deaths and 30 injuries.
ALLEGATIONS OF "EXCESSIVE FORCE" BY SECURITY FORCES
Reports from many cities and verified videos suggested that security forces resorted to tear gas, live ammunition, birdshot, and mass arrest methods. It was assessed that the protests were not limited to major cities but also spread to small towns and villages, indicating a horizontal wave of protests across the country.
