Tension rose during the last session of the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Council. ABB President Mansur Yavaş interrupted the session in response to members who were banging on the table. He then responded to the rising voices by saying, "Stop shouting, why are you shouting!"
The last session of the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality (ABB) Council was marked by tense moments. After some members started banging on the tables, ABB President Mansur Yavaş interrupted the session, saying, "Don't bang on the table. Those who bang on the table left here last week."
"STOP SHOUTING!"
After a short break, the discussions resumed, and loud voices from the AK Party and MHP benches once again created a tense atmosphere. Responding to these reactions, Yavaş said, "Stop shouting! What are you shouting about?"
"TRANSPORTATION WILL BE FREE"
Then, the discussions on the 2026 budget of ABB, ASKİ, and EGO began. Speaking at the council podium, Mansur Yavaş highlighted the long-standing infrastructure problems of the capital and the increasing traffic burden due to the growing population.
Emphasizing that the migration to Ankara due to earthquake concerns has worsened traffic, Yavaş stated that they are working on a radical solution to this issue. He mentioned that if budget opportunities allow, they would take a "revolutionary" step in transportation, aiming to reduce traffic congestion by making public transport more attractive.
Yavaş said, "If God permits, and if our budget becomes suitable, I have good news for the people of Ankara; I will buy 1,000 new buses and transport the people of Ankara for free. This is the only way we can solve the traffic issue. We need to acquire plenty of buses. If we can build the infrastructure, we will relieve traffic by transporting the public for free."
