The Minister of National Education, Yusuf Tekin, responded to criticisms regarding the hanging of posters of President Erdoğan alongside Atatürk and the Turkish flag in schools. Tekin stated that the practice aims to carry the values of the republic into the future and is a legal obligation under Article 104 of the Constitution.

Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin clarified the discussions that arose following President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's directive regarding the hanging of his posters alongside Atatürk and the Turkish flag during national holidays. Speaking to reporters in Istanbul, Tekin stated that the practice aims to uphold the values of the republic and is also a legal obligation under Article 104 of the Constitution.

"REPRESENTING NATIONAL UNITY AND TOGETHERNESS"

Minister Tekin, who stated that "Transferring the values of the republic to future generations is one of our most important duties," emphasized that "The Turkish flag, which proudly waves over us, and our President, who represents the founder of our Republic, Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, and our national unity and togetherness, should be placed within the same framework. This is a societal duty in terms of standing up for the republic," he expressed.

Emphasizing that the presence of President Erdoğan's posters in schools alongside Atatürk and the Turkish flag is a "natural practice," Tekin stated, "Our President has been elected with over 50% of the votes. Therefore, this practice is both a democratic and constitutional necessity. We do not feel uncomfortable about this matter," he said.
