AKOM has issued a snowfall and cold weather warning for Istanbul. It is expected that the precipitation will increase in intensity by Thursday morning, with snow thickness ranging from 1 to 5 cm in the northern and high regions.
A snowfall warning has been issued for Istanbul by AKOM.
According to the latest report from the Disaster Affairs Department of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB), it was stated that "Cold and rainy weather continues to be effective in almost the entire country, especially in Istanbul. It is expected that the light precipitation, which is anticipated to start from the night hours, will increase in intensity from Thursday morning, and it is expected to be strongly effective intermittently in the northern parts of the European Side and around the Bosphorus, as well as generally in the Anatolian Side."
"1-5 CM OF SNOW EXPECTED IN HIGHER AREAS"
The statement also included the following expressions: "It is predicted that the expected snowfall will create a cover of 1-5 cm in the northern and higher regions of Istanbul, while in the city center, it may whiten the edges of roads and rooftops, and with the cooling that will occur after the rainy weather, freezing events and hidden icing on the roads may occur. It is important for our citizens to be prepared and cautious."
A WARNING FROM THE GOVERNOR'S OFFICE
On the other hand, the Istanbul Governor's Office also issued a warning regarding the snowfall expected to start in the evening hours and continue until noon tomorrow. According to the governor's statement, it is predicted that the precipitation will be particularly effective in the high and northern parts of the districts of Şile, Beykoz, Ümraniye, Çekmeköy, Sultanbeyli, Sancaktepe, Pendik, the North of Sarıyer, and around Arnavutköy, creating a cover on the ground.
BE CAREFUL OF ICING AND FREEZING EVENTS
The governor's statement is as follows: "Be careful of the snowfall that may occur after the evening hours in Istanbul! According to the evaluations of the General Directorate of Meteorology; it is predicted that the cold and rainy weather affecting Istanbul will pause until the evening hours today; however, it is expected to start again as snowfall after the evening hours. The snowfall is expected to increase in intensity towards the early morning and to be intermittently strong until noon. It is predicted that the snowfall will be effective in the high and northern parts of the districts of Şile, Beykoz, Ümraniye, Çekmeköy, Sultanbeyli, Sancaktepe, Pendik, the North of Sarıyer, and around Arnavutköy, creating a cover on the ground. Caution and preparedness should be exercised against possible disruptions in transportation, icing, and freezing events."
